Quinn Blocked By Tetris Company? 6:04 AM | Cord Kruse | 5 comments
Quinn, a freeware falling block puzzle game in the style of Tetris, is no longer being distributed. The makers of the game recently received a warning letter from The Tetris Company, citing copyright infringement. To avoid legal entanglements the creators of Quinn decided to remove the game from circulation until the legal issues can be explored. From the Quinn website: This is not the first time The Tetris Company has attacked the little guy and it probably won't be the last. In order to defend Quinn, a lot of time and money would have to be spent and The Tetris Company knows when they send these letters out that the people they are attacking probably cannot afford these expenses. I do not know of any clear legal precedent on this matter and The Tetris Company has never actually taken anyone to court over the issue while numerous Tetris-like games continue to be distributed today. In fact, this is not the first time Simon has been bullied by this company and it seems the mere fact that I live in the United States represents a much clearer path for The Tetris Company to push us around.
