Sorry, disagree with everyone.
If you compare this to the first two games then it puts things in perspective:
There was no 'lame' humour in the first two games-they were witty. This on the other hand is annoying.
The 3D style is horrible compared to the gorgeous 2D graphics of 1 and 2.
The story is unpiratey-who wants a story about commercialisation (which incidentally is what has happened to this game)?
The voices are annoying and whiny. The voodoo lady's 'jamaican' accent and 'Ozzy Mandrille''s 'australian' accent are terrible imitations.
The puzzles are too easy to solve.
The characters look grotesque.

Shameful, Shameful, Shameful.

I love this game ;) The jokes are awesome funny and... wuaoh, the game is fantastic! I would give it a 10 if it would run on Mac OS X. :(

This is a game for the fans, anyone who ever played and loved a monkey island game will play this and drool in the nostalgic moment. It is also fun enough for a new user to enjoy. People may criticise the often lame humour, but if you are caught up on that, then you just aren't the monkey island type, and that is just plain bad luck on your part. If you want a great time then BUY THIS GAME.

If it has a flaw it is that it is a bit too quick to solve, and the type of game gives it limited replay, at least for a couple of years. (P.S. to any game developers, maybe a port of Monkey Island 3 would make for a good time as well!)

Even though there were a few graphical glitches (which have now been fixed by a patch),
I have to give this game a 10. A rarity, even in my case where I've given just about every game I own a 7-9 rating. But then, I usually wait a couple of weeks (or more), reading reviews, talking to friends who've played it, (waiting for that in-store rebate... heh) before buying a game. Correction. I'm giving this game an 11 rating. To heck with anyone who didn't like it. From the moment I heard the opening theme, to the last confrontation involving an "Unusually Large Butt" (HAHAHA!!), I was hooked and doubly impressed. And to think, this is the first Lucas Arts game I've ever played. No, I had not even played the prequels to this game (well, that's no longer the case since I bought the others soon after, but there you go). This is a great product.

The 2D graphics are pretty and the sound is superb, but the gameplay is dull. "Eascape" is mainly a sequence of bizarre puzzles which require a strategy guide to solve.

I experienced the "Jambalaya" white screen bug on a Sawtooth G4 with 576 RAM; I don't believe the "out of RAM" error was accurate. Occasionally there was recursive loop bug, where the characters wouldn't progress in dialog or action. That bug required a force-quit.

I'm completely baffled by all these good reviews! This game had the potential of being truly great. The graphics are beautiful. The audio quality superb. The attention to detail fantastic. The game you play SUCKS. I find the humor amaturish and infantile. The solutions to the puzzles are lame and impossible to comprehend. Whoever oversaw the writing and planning of actual gameplay really screwed up. The turning movement of the character is agonizingly slow. I too encountered the "white sreen" bug on Jambalaya. How can anyone enjoy a game that you have to systematically try every inventory item with every physical set piece to discover what works? A huge disappointment.

I had a blast playing this. The story was witty and fun, plus
the puzzles were challenging but not impossible. I was amazed at
the detail that went into the game as well. The characters were constantly
moving and talking throughout the game, much to the amazement of my
roommates. They'd never seen anything like it. Highly recommended to
people who enjoy puzzle games AND a good dose of humour.

I received this game yesterday and managed to get several hours of gameplay with it.

Its a very good game. I like how there isn't pressure to do things the exact correct way immediately. You can take your time and figure things out.

This game is funny. Hilarious. Even the options screen has some funny stuff (I'll leave it for you to find).

Graphics are superb, except for the subtitle text. The text looks kind of pixellated. This could be intended or a result of a PC port where not much attention is paid to these things.

The controls take some getting used to, you may be running to some area when Guy (your character) starts running away from where you wanted to go! This is what the programmer intended as you really can't go where you were trying to go.

So, overall, I think this game is a 9.

Cons:
- controls not quite perfect
- text subtitles are rough
- replay value is low

Pros:
- Good graphics
- Very funny / Fun
- So far impossible to screw up the game so you cannot progress

Strongblade! (4/16/2001)

Well, now that I have run out and purchased, played all weekend, and actually completed the game, I am quite pleased with the overall results of the game.

For me, there were only 2 really annoying elements. The first was navigating/moving the hero, Guybrush. It takes some getting used to. Sometimes you find yourself tapping arrow keys trying to turn him just the right way so a option to interact with something/someone is finally shown. Other times it'sbecause of camera angle changes that send Guybrush skittering between 2 angles.

Overall, a minor annoyance.

Gamepad use is pretty much pointless. I have a gamepad and not only was I unable to configure it mid game (that part of the options menu was always greyed out or disabled) but when I used the built in configuring, the buttons didn't match what I configured (top button was actually interpreted as the right button, as an example)

Of course, using the keyboard was the best option anyway.

I did encounter one screen/camera angle/area on Jambalaya island (once you arrive, go south to meet with Otis) and other than Otis, the screen was entirely white! Framerate dropped to 1/saec as well and I hit a "Out of RAM" error.

Due to the above reasons, I couldn't give it a perfect 10, but it was so much fun, it comes close!

Well, EFMI showed up in my mailbox yesterday, and I've not stopped playing it since. It's an absolutely tremendous piece of work, with lively, well optimized but still high-quality 3D elements, incredibly good voice acting and sound work, as well as a sense of humor that is both hilarious, and suitable for the wee kiddies as well. Not that this game is intended for children, though the un-usually cheery and colorful packaging may throw you off. It's very-much aimed at the teenagers and twenty-somethings, with a good blend of comedy and puzzles, which are somewhat bizarre, but nonetheless challenging. As I play this game, 2 words continually jump to my mind, and you may interperate them as you will. Old-School. If you've played either of the first two games, you can expect more of the same fun-filled, relaxed, open-ended, ridiculously creative gameplay. You're rarely ever timed for anything, and you're given endless chances to try again if you blow it, just like the other adventure games of that time, like LOOM™ and the IndianaJones™ games. Thankfully, the game has not caved in, sold out, etc. It's not sacrificed it's style for something more modern or chic. It's just ENJOYABLE, which is something that I can't say for many games these days. Nothing is perfect, though. There are two clear problems with the game, though they may be a bit trivial. The first, is that sometimes it gets a little TOO ridiculous. Who would think to use a roll of prosthetic skin as a trampoline or use cologne on a stuffed Kangaroo? It almost makes a strategy guide necessary. Hmmm.... Also, the replay value is pretty-much non-existant. It becomes a broken record on the second time around. Things that sent you into hysterics the first time around seem somehow completely bland on only the second trip. But don't let these things dissuade you from this amazingly great game. You'll have an absolutely grand time with it : Worth every dime. And you'll also be helping to convince LucasArts that we actually ARE worth their time, and maybe they'll wise up as a result. (i.e: GRIM FANDANGO!!!!). TD.
