| Richard Grundy (2/11/2006) | | This monitor is first class, moving from a CRT can I just say one thing I'm never ever ever going back to CRT monitors, this monitor is just beautiful to play games, watch films and being in the OS it just looks sharp and nice. The monitor is very bright out of the box, hurt my poor fading eyes but this was soon fixed in about 30 seconds. Having played on other monitors this highly out ranks them! Also customer service is first class, my mate got this monitor too but had a problem with the OSD firmware - they replaced it no questions asked and not only that they came the day after he email them (it gets better still) they also bought a new monitor and collected the old one. So within 24 hours he had a new monitor, just superb. The only annoying thing with this monitor is the OSD thing that pops up all the time when you're going in and out of games but it's not that much of a problem. So 100%, 10/10 well worth the money, I'm even going to go dual screen with this when I find some extra cash. | | | | CrimsonMonk (9/23/2005) | | one thing: ATI's 9600 and up cards all have "Versavision", enabling screen rotation. It's not automatic - you have to go to the display preferences to change it, but it does work. This review could have been a little bit more clear on that. I've been using one for a little under a month, and I'm very impressed. The black level is pretty darn good as far as I'm concerned, and I was pleasantly surprised about the scaling quality as well. Yes, it is obscenely bright out of the box, yes it does take a while to calibrate it. Yes it's completely worth it. :) Oh, and don't even bother looking for the silver model (it's been discontinued) unless you want to pay an additional $150 for it.
| | | | Tabor (2/24/2005) | | It's as if a blind man could suddenly see!! This monitor is bright at first and does require calibration to achieve at it's optimum abilities, but once you have it locked-in, WOW!!! I am in awe at how nice DVD movies and games run on this thing!! Absolutely a great value. I highly recommend this monitor over larger screen sizes in it's price class. There is no substitute for the clarity Viewsonic has achieved!! | | | | twinky (4/1/2004) | | I bought a VP171b to go with my new dual G5. I spent a long time calibrating it as well, but now that everything is set up to my liking I can honestly say that I'm never going back to CRTs. The monitor has been an absolute joy to use. I also found the OSD a bit annoying but haven't had significant problems with it. I can definitely see myself buying a second VP171b for dual-monitor goodness when I have the money and space. | | | | Hervon (3/31/2004) | | I've had this LCD display for 1 month so far. It is simply amazing! I play Ghost Recon, Raven Sheild and Neverwinter Nights. I have not see any ghosting so far. I chose it because of the DVI input, the 16 ms response rate and mostly because of the reviews i read: Tom's Hardware: http://www4.tomshardware.com/display/20031105/index.html Very lenthty discussion: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?s=8d298e434155e961f0f6a6c5afd42d0d&threadid=625882 No color calibration problems so far. The OSD message on resolution change is a little pain though. BTW there is a software/hardware available for display rotation : Retail Radeon 9800. It is shipping right now. ;-) I highly recommend this piece of hardware
